Eugenie Smit - Ceramics
About Eugenie
I am a multidisciplinary artist. This means that I work in many mediums and I combine some, for instance clay and wood. After studying graphic design, I realised that I really rather enjoy art more but it was useful and informs my art to a great extent. I am currently focussing on sculpture and I tend to veer towards natural themes (as well as engineering but that is another story!).
I have been the proud mom of many rabbits over the years, I currently have two. One is domestic and the other a hand-reared wild bunny. All of my cottontails have been a great inspiration for some time now. My love of leaves and plant life strangely stems from palaeontology. I grew up having a grandad who was a renowned palaeontologist in South Africa. The leaf imprints, the nature of clay, the science of ceramics... Do I need to say more?! I truly love what I do.
